1st Round

In all 13 matches were played and 4 withdrawals

Unable to play their matches were:

  1. Vincent Shahim - A walkover for Dean Bakos
  2. Bradley Manas - John Abbott through to round 2
  3. Glen Michael - Easy for Derek Karam
  4. Anthony Kairuz - No complaints form Brett Ford

And what about the matches that were played?

Let's start with the shock of the day, how about Vincent Leicher's demolition of Joel Kourie? This is a rejuvenated Vincent, can we expect more of the same?

Another popular winner was Anthony Peters, he fought all the way to eliminate the dangerous Robert Germanos
Keith Kourie now off the seniors tees has discovered a new zest for the game and duly condemned Neville Kalil to an early exit
Cliff Mazaham almost did the impossible, after being 5 down at the turn he fought his way back into the match to take Mark Bakos to the last hole before finally conceding.
Other first round winners:
Mike Peters against Peter Germanos
Chris Leicher over Derek Mazaham
Pat Karam beat George Germanos
Des Backos beat Francis Jabour
Denis Leicher beat Gerald Rohana
Norman Bakos over Michael Germanos
Gabriel Khoury beat Matthew Germanos
Alan Ford beat Clive Kalil
Pat Nasser beat Stewart Zoghby

2nd Round

The 2nd round produced some exciting tussles with 2 matches going into extra time.

Mark Bakos was just that one better than Pat Leicher as they shook hands after the first extra hole, so too Keith Kourie eliminating Charles Leicher also at the 19th hole.

How about George Procommenos, 3 down with 8 to play, getting up to snatch victory from former knockout champion Michael Peters. This was the battle between Phoenicians Bantams. Both players off 9 handicap and both champions in their Phoenician careers.

Bugs Abbott so dangerous off the seniors overcame Vincent Leicher fairly comfortably.

Anthony Kalil had the edge over Des Backos.
Mark Kalil won his match against Dougie Abbott.
Pat Karam's dream ended when sponsor Gregg Bakos put in the final nail.
Craig kourie was out of sorts so Denis Leicher progresses
Derek Karam through to next round at the expense of Grant Zoghby.
Also playing good golf is Anthony Peters as Gabriel Khoury discovered.

Games to watch out for in the next round at Bryanston Country Club is the "Battle of the Kalils" - Mark vs Anthony, we'll be tracking that one with much interest!
